Managing Editor, Writer
Magnetic Magazine

I started writing professionally in 2012 “on the side”. The next year, after being hired as a staff writer at Magnetic Magazine, I quit my marketing job and moved to Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter, I was asked to step into the role of Managing Editor.

One of the hardest things I had to do as the Managing Editor was get everyone on the same page. This was particularly challenging because our writers were working remotely from various cities around the world. Every writer, to their credit, had a unique style, tone, and idea of what we should do. It wasn’t easy, but I personally proofed every article for accuracy, brand voice, and story structure. I also made sure our writers kept their unique personalities intact while making sure it was within the realm of who we wanted to be as a brand.

This position also taught me the power of engagement. It’s not enough in this world to simply write well. You have to have an opinion. You have to be engaging. You have to write content that says something and connects emotionally with people. Working with the president (David Ireland) on several initiatives was invaluable experience that has helped me take my own writing to the next level, no matter the platform.

Copywriter, Creative
10 Missions Media

Writing copy for digital ads, print ads, websites, emails, and social media at 10 Missions Media was an extraordinary opportunity for myself as a writer. But what made the position even more empowering was the unique responsibility given to me by the president, Jay DeWitt.

I led the development of new brands and marketing campaigns while helping to promote educational conferences and research products. I collaborated with the creative director and design team on a daily basis to develop style guides, brand identities, and marketing materials. Ultimately, I was responsible for working with various internal teams to take projects and brands from concept to completion.

The most powerful part of this role was making our creative visions a reality. One example of this was creating an educational conference for an industry-leading publication. Working with a brilliant design and editorial team, I helped develop a sub-brand, style guide, and marketing materials for the event. We generated excitement, increased conference attendance, and developed content and strategies still in use as of 2020. We also had the opportunity to attend the event and hear first hand how impactful this event was for attendees. It was an incredibly powerful moment that showed how creative strategy, collaboration, and hard work can come together to improve people’s lives.

Principal, Storyteller
Anders Erik Films

There’s more to video than pretty pictures that move. It’s editing, it’s storytelling, and it’s writing. After working with wedding industry guru Tony Pechacek as his cinematographer and communications consultant, I started my own wedding videography business. So where does the writing come in? Everywhere. I write content with an emphasis on client engagement and SEO for my website, I write through engaging and personalized stories on social media, and I even write it in videos.

One project I’m particular proud of is the promotional film I created for the Aria wedding venue in Minneapolis’ North Loop. One of the lead event managers there asked me if I would film something for them that would inspire hope with couples during the pandemic and keep weddings top of mind. After numerous brainstorming and strategy calls, I pitched a plan and let my creativity go to work. I focused on connecting emotionally with couples and showing off the diversity of the venue through art direction, cinematography, and writing.

No space is too big, no moment too small. Because when you have each other, nothing can keep you apart.”
